February is National Arts Month in the Philippines. Various arts and cultural activities are staged in different cultural institutions and key locations all over the archipelago. We will provide more information about the activities once available.

As an arts hub and a cultural center, UP Diliman (UPD) stages different artistic and cultural activities such as theatre productions, dance performances, puppet performances, installations and exhibits to name a few as it participates in the celebration of the arts month every February. As an academic institution, UPD also convenes colloquiums, symposiums or conferences. As stated earlier, the 2018 UP Diliman Month is Kat(h)awan or the celebration of the body as a discourse, a text and a performance.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) celebrates the arts month through the Pasinaya. Program for the 2018 Arts Month will soon be available through the center’s website.

Social Activities

A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing. Based on Eimear Mcbride’s haunting novel and Annie Ryan’s monodrama stage adaptation, A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing tells, in fragmented, poetic, and partly ambiguous language, the tragic life of a Girl, who has been repeatedly abused by his uncle, loses her beloved brother, grapples with the wicked religiosity of her mother, and increasingly finds herself in that corner of her life where no option is left. Directed by José Estrella and adapted for the stage by Rody Vera, A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing is a harrowing piece that lays bare in no delicate terms and the appalling iniquity of sex and power.
